FAQs

What are the benefits of yoga?

Through the practice of postures (asanas) the body is taught to open, extend and lengthen. This helps to improve breathing, circulation and bodily functions. Through regular practice, students find that they gain strength and agility as well as enhancing both physical and mental well being.

Will it help with stress levels and overall wellbeing?

Stress-related illnesses can interrupt the body’s balance; an overload on the nervous system leaves many people feeling stripped of vitality. Regular yoga practice can help with physical and mental conditions. Many scientific studies have demonstrated the positive effects of yoga on reducing anxiety levels, depression and muscular tension.

Through regular practice, all the physiological systems become healthier and the body is better prepared to fight off diseases.

What if I have any injuries or health concerns?

Yoga can be practiced by any age group, regardless of the gender, size or flexibility of the individual and it can help to improve many basic health issues. However, this site is designed exclusively for the use of healthy adults. If you have any injuries or suffer from physical or mental illness, we would recommend that you attend a class run by a well-qualified and certified yoga teacher who can deal with your problem on an individual basis.

Can I eat before class?

Try to give a heavy meal about 4 hours to digest before practising, or a couple of hours for a snack or drink.

What should I wear?

Something comfortable, like a T-shirt and shorts, or leggings – yoga is always practiced in bare feet.

What equipment do I need?

Before you start, you will need a non-slip yoga mat. If you are on the pink route you will initailly need a few household items like blankets, a chair and a tie. Once you have completed a few modules, we would recommend that everyone purchase a yoga kit comprising: 5 foam pads, 2 bricks, 1 bolster, 2 blankets, 2 belts. This equipment will enable you to get the most out of the site.

Can I learn Yoga online?

This yoga practice site was developed from our years of teaching yoga and our students’ requests for guidance in their home practice. Although we would always recommend that, wherever possible, you attend a class run by a teacher belonging to a reputable yoga organisation, we recognise that we all sometimes have times in our lives when it is difficult to get to a regular class. This site has been developed with the intention of guiding both new and more experienced students through sequences that ensure a safe and structured progression through the pose work.

What is Yoga?

Yoga has been developed over millennia to systematically open and close, stretch and contract, squeeze and rotate every muscle, organ and cell in the body. These actions are designed to balance and integrate the different physiological systems so that they function optimally and in harmony. Yoga is not however a purely physical activity; it strengthens and energizes the body and it calms the mind.
